Client Success Story: Streamlining Turnovers by Collaborating Early on Work Packages

A chemical processing facility manages a portfolio of small projects simultaneously at various project phases.

The Challenge: 

Traditionally, turnover packages (TOPs) are left to the end of the project. The Commissioning & Startup team’s work was often delayed while the crew finished up long punch lists. In addition, expensive resources were used to assemble TOPs in an incomplete and inefficient manner.

The Solution: 

O3’s ONBuild solution was introduced to create a streamlined process for planning and creating Installation Work Packages earlier and began collaborating with other teams.

With ONBuild, the team:

• Developed IWPs with turnovers in mind
• Collaborated with a multi-discipline team to develop Construction Work Packages
• Created IWPs with appropriate punch list items
• Planned Test Work Packages and Turnover Packages in advance to coordinate across work areas

Results: 

Implementing O3’s RFI workflow resulted in significant gains in project efficiency and accuracy: 

• Turnover packages were completed faster with shorter punch lists

• Project stakeholders had visibility over the progress and completion of each work package

• Rework was minimized; crews could focus on their portion of the work instead of revisiting previous, unrelated packages
